Our team has diverse specialties and encompasses five brands: System 7, Wolfers Lighting, The Boston Shade Company, Back Bay Shutter Company, and MWA. Together, we offer a complete solution for the contemporary home, with expertise in lighting, shading, and the technology to bring it all together.
System 7 was founded in 2003 to provide simple, reliable, and aesthetically pleasing home technology solutions. Today, it is the technology design division of our company as well as the fount of inspiration for how we approach lighting and shading products at Wolfers and Boston Shade.
Everything we do flows from System 7's founding belief that home technology - including lighting and shading - should be simple to use, reliable to operate, and complement the beauty of your space rather than distract from it.
The Boston Shade Company joined System 7 in 2013, and is New England's leading provider of automated smart shades. Through Boston Shade and Back Bay Shutter, we offer an extensive selection of custom window treatments, from solar shading to bespoke drapery.
The primary showroom for Boston Shade is our System 7 Experience Center.
As of 2022, Back Bay Shutter Company is a part of System 7. In addition to automated shading, Back Bay Shutter offers custom interior wood shutters. They are known for their craftsmanship, attention to detail, and excellent customer service.
Together, Back Bay Shutter & Boston Shade make up the window treatment division of System 7.
In each of our designs, we explore the relationship between technology and architecture. We believe technology should augment the beauty of a space and never distract from it. It should be simple to use and reliable.
These guiding principles inform every design choice and recommendation that we make. Today every project needs technology. We believe every project deserves good technology design.
"Technology Design is not about bits and bytes. It's about simplicity, reliability, and aesthetics."

Having devoted the first part of his career to open standards software development, Gerard set his sights on another industry entangled with proprietary technologies after his patented software designs were acquired by Symantec in 2002. He saw a growing need for home technology solutions that would involve less integration complexity, system downtime, and homeowner frustration. And thus System 7 was born.
Today, System 7's clients embrace the firm's philosophy that a technology design should not be measured in terms of bits, bytes, or watts. It should be measured by its simplicity, its reliability, and its beauty.
With this guiding mantra, System 7 has grown to become one of the nation's leading experts in residential technology design and implementation.
